# Caller ID Display

> Choose what your team sees when a forwarded call rings - your virtual business number, or the original caller's number.

Source: https://edesy.in/docs/call-forwarding/rules/caller-id-display

You choose the caller ID your team sees when a forwarded call rings their phone: your **virtual number**, so they know it is a business call, or the **original caller's** number, so they know who is calling. The virtual number is the default and the most reliable choice.

## Options

| Option | API value | Your team sees | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Virtual number (default) | `did` | Your business number | Telling business calls apart from personal calls on a mobile |
| Original caller | `original` | The real caller's number | Recognising returning customers, calling them back directly |

With **Original caller**, some telecom networks may replace the number with your virtual number, so do not rely on it always coming through.

The call log always records the real caller's number, whichever option you pick.

## Set it

In the portal, choose under **Caller ID shown to answering phone** on the rule. With the API:

```bash
curl -X PATCH https://voice-api.edesy.in/v1/forwarding/rules/RULE_ID \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_your_api_key" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "caller_id_mode": "original" }'
```

## FAQ

**Can my team see who is calling?**
Yes, choose Original caller. On some networks they may see your virtual number instead.

**Where do I find the real caller's number?**
In the call log (`caller_number`), for every call.

**Can I show a different number from my virtual number?**
No. The two options are your virtual number or the original caller.
