# Start

> The Start node is the entry point of every IVR Studio call flow.

The Start node is where every call enters a flow. It has no settings and exactly one exit. Every flow needs one Start node, and Start must be connected to another node, or the flow cannot be published. The builder adds Start for you, so it doesn't appear in the node palette.

## Flow checks

- "Flow has no Start node." (error)
- "Start isn't connected to anything." (error)
- Any node that can't be reached from Start gets a warning.

## Tip

Connect Start to a [Config](https://edesy.in/docs/ivr/nodes/config) node first so the voice and language apply to the whole call.
