# Prompt Versions and Config Snapshots

> Every prompt save creates a version you can compare and restore, and agent config snapshots let you roll back the whole agent, including tools, data fields and call behaviour.

Edesy keeps two kinds of history for each agent. **Prompt versions** record every change to the prompt, with a line-by-line diff and one-click restore. **Config snapshots** record the agent's whole configuration (tools, data fields, knowledge base links, call behaviour, outcomes and more) so you can roll back everything at once, not just the prompt.

## At a glance

| | Prompt versions | Config snapshots |
|---|---|---|
| What is saved | The prompt text | The full editable agent config |
| When | Each time the prompt changes | Automatically on update, manually, and before every restore |
| Compare | Diff against the previous or any earlier version | Labels and notes |
| Restore | Yes, with undo | Yes; a pre-restore snapshot is taken first |
| Where | Prompt editor → **History** | Agent → **History** tab |

## What a config snapshot covers

- Agent settings (model, voice, language, greeting and the rest)
- Functions and tools
- Data collection fields
- Knowledge base links
- Call behaviour (silence, interruptions, end-call rules)
- Outcome configuration and fallback rules
- Conversation flow
- ERP configuration
- Per-agent extraction templates

## Snapshot triggers

| Trigger | When it happens | Kept |
|---------|-----------------|------|
| Automatic | After you save a change. Identical configs are not saved twice | The latest 30 per agent |
| Manual | You click **Save a checkpoint**, optionally with a label and notes | Always |
| Pre-restore | Just before you restore another snapshot | Always, so you can undo the restore |

## Compare and restore a prompt version

1. Open the agent and go to the prompt editor.
2. Open **History**.
3. Pick a version. Switch between **Changes** (the diff) and **Full prompt**.
4. Use **Compare with** to diff against the previous version or any other version.
5. Click **Restore**. If you change your mind, click **Undo** in the confirmation.

## Restore a config snapshot

1. Open the agent and go to the **History** tab.
2. Find the snapshot by date, label or change note.
3. Click **Restore**. A pre-restore snapshot of the current state is saved first.
4. Place a test call to confirm the agent behaves as expected.

## FAQs

**Does restoring a prompt version change my tools?**
No. Prompt versions only cover the prompt. Use a config snapshot to roll back tools and other settings.

**Are evals linked to a version?**
Yes. Each eval run records the agent configuration and the prompt version it ran against. See [evals](https://edesy.in/docs/voice-agent/agent-setup/evals).

**Can I A/B test two prompts on live traffic?**
No. Compare prompts with evals and test calls, then restore or keep the version you prefer.

**Will a restore break my phone number or campaign links?**
Restores keep the same agent, so numbers and campaigns stay attached.
