# Get a Number and Complete KYC

> Buy an Indian virtual number for WhatsApp in the portal, or enable WhatsApp on a number you already own on Edesy. Wallet charges, KYC and the number API.

You can put WhatsApp on a number in two ways: buy one from the **Buy Numbers** tab in wa-connect.edesy.in, or enable WhatsApp on an active number you already own on Edesy. Bought numbers are charged to your prepaid wallet (setup plus the first month). Enabling an owned number costs nothing extra.

Prices are in INR and exclude 18% GST. Numbers bought on the Edesy voice platform (voice-app.edesy.in) rent at Rs 499/month for mobile and 92-series, Rs 449/month for landline and Rs 999/month for toll-free, with Rs 0 setup.

## KYC

Business KYC is required before you buy numbers on the Edesy voice platform (voice-app.edesy.in). Business types: individual, sole proprietor, partnership, private limited, public limited and LLP. Documents: PAN and Aadhaar. Review takes about 24 hours.

Meta runs its own checks on your WhatsApp Business Account (for example, business verification in Meta Business Manager). Those are handled with Meta, not Edesy.

## How it works

1. **Top up your wallet** on the **Wallet** page. A purchase fails if the balance is below the setup plus first-month price.
2. **Open Numbers.** The **My Numbers** tab lists numbers already set up for WhatsApp with their health badges.
3. **Buy or pick a number.** On **Buy Numbers**, click **Purchase**. On **Use a Number I Own**, click **Enable WhatsApp**.
4. **Enable messaging.** The number moves to **My Numbers** with an **Enable Messaging** button that opens the connection wizard. See [Embedded Signup](https://edesy.in/docs/whatsapp-number/getting-started/embedded-signup).
5. **Release** a number you no longer need from the API (below).

## Number API

All endpoints need `Authorization: Bearer sk_...`. Base URL: `https://voice-api.edesy.in/v1/whatsapp`.

The `id` returned by purchase or enroll is the **pool number ID**. The verification and Embedded Signup endpoints take it as `pool_number_id`.

## FAQ

### How much does a WhatsApp number cost?
The setup price (if any) and monthly rental are shown on each number before you buy. The first month and setup are taken from your wallet at purchase. Prices exclude 18% GST.

### Is there an extra charge to enable WhatsApp on a number I already own?
No. Enabling an owned number does not charge the wallet. You keep paying that number's normal rental.

### Why does my number not appear under "Use a Number I Own"?
Only active numbers on your account that do not already have WhatsApp enabled are listed.

### What KYC documents do I need?
PAN and Aadhaar, for buying numbers on the Edesy voice platform. Review takes about 24 hours.

### Does Edesy verify my business with Meta?
No. Meta's business verification is done in your Meta Business Manager.

### Can I buy a number with the API?
Yes. Use `GET /v1/whatsapp/numbers/available` and then `POST /v1/whatsapp/numbers/{id}/purchase` or `POST /v1/whatsapp/numbers/orders`.

### What happens if my wallet balance is too low?
The purchase is refused and nothing is charged. Top up and try again.
