Common questions about API integration

How does function calling work in voice conversations?

When the AI needs data (like order status), it pauses briefly, makes an API call to your system, receives the response, and continues the conversation with the real information. The pause is typically 1-2 seconds, natural in conversation flow.

What systems can I integrate with?

Any system with a REST API. We have native connectors for Shopify, WooCommerce, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Google Calendar, and major databases. For custom systems, you provide the API endpoint and we handle the integration.

How do I define what functions the AI can call?

You define functions in our dashboard with the endpoint URL, parameters the AI should collect, and response mapping. The AI automatically knows when to call each function based on the conversation context.

What happens if an API call fails?

You can configure fallback behavior - retry, use cached data, ask the customer to call back, or transfer to a human. The AI gracefully handles failures without ending the call abruptly.

Is there latency when making API calls?

Typically 1-2 seconds, which feels natural in conversation ('Let me check that for you...'). We use streaming and caching where possible. Critical paths can be pre-fetched to reduce latency.

Can the AI make write operations (POST, PUT, DELETE)?

Yes, the AI can create records, update data, and trigger actions. For sensitive operations, you can require confirmation ('I'll book that appointment for Tuesday at 2 PM. Should I confirm?') before executing.

How secure are the API integrations?
