Basic Salary
The fixed component of salary, typically 40-50% of CTC. PF and gratuity are calculated on basic salary. Higher basic means higher PF contribution but also higher tax liability.
House Rent Allowance (HRA)
Tax-exempt allowance for employees paying rent. Exemption is the minimum of: actual HRA received, rent paid minus 10% of basic, or 50%/40% of basic (metro/non-metro).
Provident Fund (PF)
