If your AI call offers something only a specific group should get (a free specimen book for teachers, a dealer scheme, a B2B sample), the verification question decides whether the offer reaches the right people. The rule we learned from a real teacher-outreach deployment: ask an open question and never supply the answer options. "Up to which class are you qualified to teach?" verifies; "Are you PRT, TGT or PGT?" doesn't, because it hands anyone the right words. Here's how to design verification that works and still sounds friendly.

Open vs leading questions
| Leading (doesn't verify) | Open (verifies) |
|---|---|
| "Are you a PRT, TGT or PGT teacher?" | "Up to which class are you qualified to teach?" |
| "Do you run a pharmacy or a clinic?" | "What kind of business do you run?" |
| "Have you cleared CTET?" | "Have you taken any teaching eligibility exam? Which one?" |
| "Is your shop registered under GST?" | "How is your business registered?" |
The rules
- One open question at a time. Short, natural wording.
- Never say the options. Not in the question, not in a hint, not in a rephrase.
- Rephrase once if unclear, in simpler words, still without options.
- Don't re-ask what they already told you. If they named the exam already, only ask the subject.
- Accept every answer politely. No arguing, no suspicion in the tone.
- Score it after the call: verified, unclear, refused.
Example flow
Agent: Great, aapki preferences samajhni hain. Aap currently kis level tak teach karne ke liye qualified hain? Caller: (unsure) Agent: Matlab, aap kaunsi class tak ke students ko padha sakte hain? Caller: Class 10 tak. Agent: Oh great, aur koi teaching eligibility exam diya hai? Kaunsa, aur kis subject mein?
Notice the agent never names a cadre, exam or degree before the caller does.
Scoring verification
Add fields the agent fills after the call:
| Field | Values |
|---|---|
| verification | VERIFIED, UNCLEAR, REFUSED |
| drop_reason | e.g. REFUSED_QUALIFICATION if they wouldn't answer |
See why AI calls fail: drop reasons by script stage and score every AI call automatically. Your team or a follow-up step (a WhatsApp form, a document) can then check the unclear ones.
Keep it friendly
Verification works best when it feels like interest, not interrogation: "aapki preferences samajhni hain" ("I want to understand your preferences"). Keep one short line per turn and move on after the answer. The full use case is in how a publisher reaches teachers with AI calls.
Try it
Create a free account, write one open verification question for your offer, and test it by calling yourself and answering vaguely.
