Everything you need on WhatsApp voice

Built on Meta's WhatsApp Business Calling API with the same voice AI stack used for our PSTN telephony.

Native WhatsApp Calling

Uses Meta's WhatsApp Business Calling API directly — your customers tap the call button on your verified WhatsApp number and the AI agent picks up. No separate phone line, no PSTN routing.

<500ms Response Latency

Optimised for real-time voice with native audio LLMs (Gemini Live 2.5 HD, OpenAI Realtime). 40% faster than traditional STT → LLM → TTS pipelines.

24 Native Languages

Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and 18 more — plus English with Indian accent support. Native processing, not translation.

Function Calling & CRM Sync

Agent fetches order status, books appointments, updates leads in your CRM mid-call. Connect to Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Google Sheets, or any REST API.

30 HD Studio Voices

Premium voices via Gemini Live 2.5 HD and ElevenLabs. Affective dialog detects caller emotion and responds with empathy.

Automatic Webhook Setup

Link an agent in the Edesy dashboard and the platform automatically programmes Meta's per-number webhook for you. No copy-pasting URLs.

Recordings + Transcripts

Every call recorded, transcribed, and tagged with outcome. Searchable history and analytics dashboard out of the box.

Enterprise Security

End-to-end encryption, SOC2-ready, data residency in India. Self-hosted deployment available for regulated industries.

WhatsApp Voice AI vs WhatsApp Chatbot

Different problems, different solutions

WhatsApp Voice Agent

  • Voice-native

Customer speaks, AI responds in real time. No typing, no menus.

  • Higher engagement

Voice conveys tone, urgency, and trust — better for emotional / high-stakes interactions.

  • Resolves in one turn

Complex questions answered conversationally. No follow-up message threads.

  • Accessible

Works for users who can't type fluently — elderly, low-literacy, or driving.

WhatsApp Chatbot

  • Asynchronous

Customer can reply on their own schedule. Good for non-urgent flows.

  • Rich media

Images, buttons, lists, payments inline in the chat.

  • Searchable history

Customer can scroll back to read previous answers.

  • Lower bandwidth

Works on weak data connections better than voice.

Talk to customers in their language

Native voice support for 22 Indian languages plus English. Pick one or run agents in multiple languages with auto-detect.

How we compare to other WhatsApp + AI platforms

Most India-based WhatsApp platforms are messaging-first with voice as a thin add-on. See where Edesy fits compared to Gupshup, WATI, Haptik, Yellow.ai, and Verloop.

For developers

Built on the same platform as our PSTN voice agents

Same agent definition, same prompt engine, same function-calling interface, same call analytics. Switch a WhatsApp Voice agent to phone with one config change. Full REST API + webhooks.

Same agent works across channels:

  • WhatsApp Business Calling
  • PSTN telephony (Twilio, Plivo, Exotel)
  • Self-managed SIP / Edesy SIP
  • WebRTC browser widget

Frequently asked questions

What is WhatsApp Voice AI?

WhatsApp Voice AI is an AI voice agent that answers inbound calls placed to your WhatsApp Business number. When a customer taps the call button on your WhatsApp profile, the call is handed to an AI agent that holds a natural conversation, books appointments, answers FAQs, qualifies leads, or hands off to a human — exactly like a phone-based AI agent, but on WhatsApp.

How is this different from a WhatsApp chatbot?

A WhatsApp chatbot handles text messages. WhatsApp Voice AI handles WhatsApp voice calls. Most businesses end up using both: chatbots for async queries with rich media (buttons, payments), and voice AI for higher-engagement spoken conversations like appointment booking, lead qualification, or anything where tone and urgency matter.

Do I need a Twilio or Plivo account?

No. WhatsApp Voice AI uses Meta's WhatsApp Business Calling API directly — calls flow over WhatsApp's WebRTC infrastructure, not the public phone network. You only need a WhatsApp Business account (or a Meta Developer test account to start) and a phone number that isn't already on WhatsApp.

How long does setup take?

Under an hour for the test setup. You create a Meta Developer app, generate a permanent System User access token, enable calling on your phone number, and paste three values into the Edesy dashboard. Going to production also requires Meta Business Verification (1–14 business days). Full step-by-step instructions are in our setup guide.

What languages are supported?

All 22 Indian languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia, Assamese, Urdu, and more) plus English with Indian accent support, and 100+ international languages via OpenAI Realtime and Gemini Live. Language is configured per agent and can auto-detect Hinglish.

How much does it cost?

WhatsApp inbound voice calls are billed at standard voice agent rates — pay-as-you-go from ₹4/min ($0.04/min), or monthly plans from ₹1,499 with 300 minutes included. There is no separate channel premium for WhatsApp. Meta does not currently charge for inbound user-initiated WhatsApp calls.

Can the AI book appointments and update my CRM?

Yes. Connect Google Calendar, Calendly, Outlook, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, or any custom REST API via function calling. The AI checks real availability, books slots, sends confirmation messages, and writes back to your CRM mid-call — all without leaving the WhatsApp call.

What happens if the AI can't handle a query?

You define escalation rules. The AI can warm-transfer to a human agent (with full conversation context), schedule a callback, send a WhatsApp message with a link, or end the call gracefully. The customer is never left hanging.

Is the call recorded and transcribed?

Yes. Every call is recorded, transcribed, and stored with structured outcome data (booked / qualified / escalated / etc). All recordings are encrypted at rest and access-controlled. Self-hosted deployment is available for regulated industries that need full data residency.

Can I make outbound WhatsApp voice calls?

Outbound WhatsApp business-initiated calls are coming. They require your account to reach Meta's messaging tier of 2,000 unique users/day. For outbound today, most customers use traditional telephony (Twilio, Exotel, Plivo) for the call and WhatsApp messaging for follow-up — see our voice + WhatsApp omnichannel integration.

Does it work with my existing WhatsApp number?

If your number is already on personal WhatsApp, you'll need a different number for the WhatsApp Business Calling API (Meta's restriction, not ours). Virtual / VoIP numbers from Twilio, Plivo, or Vonage work well. If you already use WhatsApp Business API for messaging, you can enable calling on the same number.

How does this compare to Gupshup, WATI, Haptik, or Yellow.ai?

Most India-based WhatsApp platforms are messaging-first — voice is either absent or a thin add-on. Edesy is voice-first with deep WhatsApp Business Calling support, native audio LLMs (Gemini Live 2.5, OpenAI Realtime), and 22+ Indian languages tuned for voice. See our detailed comparisons under Compare in the navigation.
