Understanding GST on Invoices

CGST + SGST (Intra-State)

When buyer and seller are in the same state, GST is split equally between Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST). For example, 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST.

IGST (Inter-State)

When buyer and seller are in different states, Integrated GST (IGST) applies. The full tax rate goes to IGST. For example, 18% GST = 18% IGST.

HSN/SAC Codes

HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) codes are for goods, SAC (Services Accounting Code) for services. These codes determine the applicable GST rate.

Place of Supply

The location where goods are delivered or services are performed determines whether CGST+SGST or IGST applies. This is automatically detected based on state codes.
