Most AI campaign calls in India are over in about 30 seconds. That's what our platform data shows for outbound campaigns, and it isn't a problem: a reminder or confirmation doesn't need more. What it means is that the first sentence is most of the call. In one regional-language campaign, many people hung up right after the greeting, and the fix was a shorter, clearer opening. Here's how to design calls that work in 30 seconds.

The 30-second structure
| Seconds | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0-7 | Name, who is calling, automated, why |
| 7-12 | The one question |
| 12-25 | Handle the answer (yes / no / later / already done) |
| 25-30 | Confirm next step and close |
Before and after
Before (loses people):
Namaste! Main XYZ Financial Services Private Limited ki taraf se bol rahi hoon, India ki leading NBFC. Humein aapki seva karne mein khushi hai. Aaj main aapse aapke loan account ke baare mein kuch jaankari share karna chahti thi...
After (works):
Namaste {{name}} ji, XYZ Finance se automated call hai. Aapki {{amount}} rupaye ki EMI {{due_date}} ko due hai. Kya aap tab tak payment kar payenge?
The "after" version reaches the question in about eight seconds.
Rules for short calls
- Reason in the first sentence. No taglines, no "how are you today".
- One question. If you need more, send the rest on WhatsApp. See WhatsApp follow-up after an AI call.
- Plan the four answers: yes, no, later, already done. Script each in one line.
- Close by confirming the next step: "Main payment link SMS kar rahi hoon."
- Don't end on "thank you" mid-call. A polite "thank you" isn't a goodbye; see why your AI agent hangs up too early.
- Name and details from the list, not asked on the call, where you already have them.
When longer calls are right
Lead qualification, support, surveys with several questions and hospital follow-ups need one to three minutes. Even then, front-load the reason and ask one question per turn. See BANT qualification with AI voice calls.
Measure what matters
- Share of calls reaching the main question: if low, shorten the opening.
- Share with a clear outcome: if low, simplify the question or answer options.
- Very short calls (under 5 seconds): could be a weak opening, or silence. See how to fix dead air.
Cost
On Edesy, calls are billed per started minute at Rs 4-6 depending on your prepaid top-up, so a 30-second call and a 55-second call cost the same. Use the time for clarity, not for extra questions.
