What the certificate has to do
An industrial training certificate is doing two jobs at once, and most badly written ones only do the first.
The first is proof of attendance: this person was here, on these dates, for this long. That part is easy and almost everyone gets it right.
The second is proof of exposure: what they were actually put in front of. This is the part departments care about, because "underwent industrial training at our plant" tells an examiner nothing. Naming the shops, machines or processes is what makes the certificate worth submitting — and it is what makes the difference when the student later shows it to an employer.
1. Industrial training certificate — Diploma (Mechanical)
INDUSTRIAL TRAINING CERTIFICATE

Sections covered during the training: machine shop, CNC turning and milling, quality inspection, and assembly.
He gained hands-on exposure to CNC machining, measurement using vernier and micrometer instruments, and routine quality checks. His conduct and performance during the training were found to be Very Good.

2. Summer training certificate — B.Tech (Electrical)
For degree students the attachment is usually longer and more observational. Say so honestly; a certificate that overstates what an undergraduate was allowed to touch in a substation helps nobody.

This is to certify that Ms. Sneha Agarwal, a student of Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, pursuing B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, has successfully undergone summer industrial training at Northern Power Systems Ltd. from 20 May 2026 to 15 July 2026, a duration of 1 month and 3 weeks.
Departments covered: substation maintenance, transformer testing, and the protection and control panel section.
She observed and assisted in routine testing procedures and prepared a training report on transformer maintenance practices. Her performance was found to be Excellent.

3. In-plant training certificate — ITI (Fitter trade)
ITI certificates should name the trade, because that is how the institute files it, and should mention safety conduct explicitly.
IN-PLANT TRAINING CERTIFICATE
This is to certify that Mr. Manjunath K., a trainee of Government ITI, Hosur, in the Fitter trade, has successfully undergone in-plant training at Sri Venkatesh Auto Components from 1 April 2026 to 31 May 2026, a duration of 2 months.
Sections covered: fitting and bench work, press shop, and final inspection.
He followed all shop-floor safety practices and completed the assigned work satisfactorily. His attendance, discipline and performance were found to be Good.

What polytechnics actually check
From the three things that most often send a certificate back:
- Exact dates, not just a duration. "Two months of training" without start and end dates fails almost everywhere.
- The enrolment or register number. Degree colleges are relaxed about this; polytechnics and ITIs are not.
- An authorised signature with a designation and seal. A signature with no designation under it, or a certificate on plain paper rather than letterhead, gets questioned.
Beyond those, include:
- Company or plant name and address on the official letterhead
- A title stating "Industrial Training Certificate", "Certificate of Summer Training" or "In-Plant Training Certificate"
- Student name, institute, course or trade
- The shops, sections or departments covered
- A short description of the machines or processes the trainee worked on
- A conduct and performance remark
- Reference number and issue date
Issuing to a whole batch
