For an Indian small business or startup, the right AI calling platform for outbound sales is the one that sounds natural in your customers' language, charges per minute in rupees with no seat fees, lets you start without a sales call, writes answers into your CRM, and hands hot leads to a person. Everything else is secondary. Below is a checklist for choosing, a one-week pilot plan you can run for under Rs 2,000, and what it costs at scale. On Edesy this is the AI sales agent.
Run the pilot on Edesy: Create a free account — self-serve, Rs 50 free credit, no demo needed.
What a small sales team should automate
| Call | Automate with AI? |
|---|---|
| First contact with new inbound leads | Yes, within minutes |
| Re-engaging old leads in your CRM | Yes, the best first project |
| Qualification (need, budget, timeline) | Yes |
| Meeting or demo booking | Yes, into your calendar |
| Payment and renewal reminders | Yes |
| Demos, pricing negotiation, closing | No, keep with people |
The goal is not to replace your salespeople. It is to make sure every lead gets a call, and your people only talk to the interested ones. See scale outbound calling without hiring telecallers.
The checklist: what to look for
1. Language quality in your market. Test in Hinglish, and in any regional language your buyers speak. Listen for natural phrasing, numbers and names. Our 30-minute AI voice agent test checklist has the full list.
2. Rupee pricing, per minute, no seats. Small teams shouldn't pay per-seat licences for software that makes calls. Check whether billing is per second or per started minute, whether unanswered calls are charged, and whether there's a monthly minimum.
3. Self-serve start. You should be able to sign up, build an agent and call your own phone the same day, without booking a demo.
4. Data back into your tools. Qualification answers should land in your CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho CRM, GoHighLevel) or a Google Sheet automatically.
5. Handoff to a person. Hot leads should be transferred live during working hours, or booked into a calendar (Google Calendar, Cal.com).
6. Campaign controls. Upload a CSV or Excel list, set a calling window, limit parallel calls, and retry unanswered numbers by outcome.
7. Follow-up messaging. Sending a brochure, payment link or meeting confirmation on WhatsApp or SMS during the call saves a separate step.
A one-week pilot for under Rs 2,000
Day 1: set up. Sign up, pick the sales or lead qualification template, write 5 qualifying questions, and define the fields you want back. Call your own phone ten times.
Day 2: fix. Adjust pronunciation, tighten the script, test transfer to your number.
Days 3-5: call. Run 200-300 contacts from an old lead list, inside business hours.
Day 6: review. Listen to 30 recordings. Count meetings or hot leads, and wrong-number and not-interested rates.
Day 7: decide. Compare cost per meeting with your current process.
At Rs 4-6 per answered minute and unanswered calls free, 300 contacts with around half answering and calls of about a minute cost roughly Rs 600-900, plus your test calls. The Rs 50 signup credit covers the first round of testing.
What it costs at scale
On Edesy, prepaid top-up tiers set the rate: Rs 6.00 per minute from a Rs 500 top-up, down to Rs 4.00 per minute for large top-ups, billed per started minute, with unanswered calls free and no seat fees. Mistakes to avoid
- Calling cold lists that never opted in. It burns your brand and can breach TRAI rules; see TRAI and DND rules.
- Scripts that are too long. Ask 3-5 questions, not 15.
- No human handoff. Hot leads should reach a person the same day.
- Judging on one day. Let the pilot run a full week, including retries.
