You don't need more telecallers to make more calls. You need to stop spending your team's time on calls that don't need them. Most outbound calling is repetitive: first contact with new leads, reminders, follow-ups, and "are you still interested?" calls where most numbers don't answer. An AI voice agent can make those calls at any volume, in Indian languages, and hand the interested people to your sales team with the answers already captured.
This guide shows how to split the work between AI and people, what to automate first, and how to run the numbers for your team.

Why outbound teams burn out
A typical inside-sales day looks like this: 100-150 dials, a large share unanswered or busy, a handful of wrong numbers, many "call me later", and only a few real conversations. The work that wears people down is not the good conversations. It is the dialling, waiting, repeating the same opening line and logging outcomes.
Hiring more people adds cost and training time but does not change the ratio. The ratio changes when the repetitive part moves to software.
The split: what AI calls, what people call
| Call type | Who should make it | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First contact with a new lead | AI, within minutes | Speed matters, and most of the call is the same questions |
| Qualification (budget, need, timeline) | AI | Structured questions with answers you can store |
| Reminders (payments, visits, renewals) | AI | High volume, one clear action |
| Re-engaging old leads | AI | Most will not answer; no rep should dial them |
| Interested lead ready to talk price | Person, via transfer | Needs judgement and negotiation |
| Complaints and escalations | Person | Needs empathy and authority |
| Large or strategic deals | Person | Relationship-driven |
The AI agent's job is to find and prepare the conversations worth having. Your reps' job is to have them.
How the handoff works
- A lead comes in, from your website, an ad form, a portal such as IndiaMART, or an old CRM list.
- The AI agent calls, introduces itself as an automated assistant, and asks your qualifying questions in the lead's language.
- The answers are captured as fields: interest, budget, location, timeline, preferred call time.
- Hot leads are transferred live to an available salesperson, or booked into a calendar slot (Edesy supports Google Calendar, Cal.com and GoHighLevel calendars).
- Everything is written back to your CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho CRM, GoHighLevel) or to a Google Sheet, so the rep sees the context before saying hello.
For the "call every lead within a minute" part, see speed to lead with AI callbacks.
Example: real estate enquiries without more telecallers
A developer running ads in Mumbai or Pune can get hundreds of enquiries a day, most at night and on weekends. An AI agent can:
- Call each enquiry within minutes, in Hindi, Marathi or English
- Confirm budget, preferred location, configuration (1/2/3 BHK) and purchase timeline
- Offer and book a site-visit slot, then send the location on WhatsApp
- Transfer "ready to buy" callers to a sales manager during working hours
The sales team starts each morning with a list of qualified, booked visits instead of 300 cold numbers. The real estate lead follow-up guide covers the scripts.
Run the numbers for your team
Use your own figures. The structure of the comparison is what matters:
Telecaller cost per useful conversation = (monthly salary + seat + phone + management) / (useful conversations per month)
AI cost per useful conversation = (answered calls x billed minutes x Rs 4-6) / (useful conversations)
On Edesy, calls are billed per started minute and unanswered calls cost nothing, so a one-minute qualification call costs about Rs 4-6 when answered. The voice agent pricing comparison tool and our AI vs human call center cost guide help you fill in the rest.
The real saving is usually not in replacing people. It is in the same team handling several times more leads, because they only speak to the interested ones.
What to automate first
Pick the call type with the highest volume and the simplest script:
- Re-engaging old leads in your CRM. No one on the team wants these calls, and the list already exists.
- Reminders, such as payments, visits and renewals. One action per call, easy to measure.
- First contact with new leads, once you trust the qualification questions.
Pilot 200-500 calls, listen to the recordings, adjust the script, then scale. Our 10,000-contact campaign playbook covers concurrency, calling windows and retries.
Rules to follow
- Call people who enquired or are existing customers, and respect DND preferences. See TRAI rules for AI calling.
- Say it is an automated assistant, and offer a person on request.
- Keep calls within reasonable hours with a calling window.
- Record calls and keep outcomes, so disputes are easy to check.
