Don't judge an AI voice agent from a demo. Call it yourself, with your script, in your customers' language. In 30 minutes you can test the things that decide whether customers stay on the line: how fast it replies, how it handles interruptions, whether it understands Hinglish, numbers and names, whether it can hand over to a person, what it does with voicemail, what data you get back, and what one call really costs. Below is a checklist you can run on any platform, including Edesy with its Rs 50 free credit.

Before you start (5 minutes)
- Pick one real use case: an EMI reminder, COD confirmation, lead follow-up or appointment booking.
- Write a 5-line script the way you'd brief a new telecaller. Our Hindi calling scripts give you seven to start from.
- Decide what data you want back from each call: outcome, date, amount, interest.
- Have two phones ready: one to receive the call, and a colleague's to play a difficult customer.
The checklist (25 minutes)
Score each item 0 (fails), 1 (acceptable) or 2 (good).
1. Response speed
Make three calls and time the gap between the end of your sentence and the agent's reply. Around a second feels like a normal conversation. Two to three seconds and people start saying "hello?". Test on a mobile network, since that is where your customers are. Background: low-latency Hinglish voice agents.
2. Interruptions
Cut in while the agent is speaking: "haan haan, pata hai" or "ek minute". A good agent stops, listens and responds to what you said. A weak one keeps talking over you.
3. Your customers' language
Speak naturally: Hinglish, fast, with filler words. Then read the transcript. Check:
- Did it understand "kal shaam ko call karna" (call tomorrow evening)?
- Does it answer in the same language mix, or switch to formal Hindi or English?
- Does it pronounce your brand, product and city names correctly?
If your customers speak Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Marathi or Bengali, test in that language too.
4. Numbers, dates and names
Say an amount ("chaar hazaar paanch sau"), a date ("5 October") and an address with a pincode. Check
that the agent reads variables naturally (for example {{amount}} = 4500 read as an amount, not
digits) and that it captured what you said correctly.
5. The off-script customer
Have your colleague play difficult customers: "maine pehle hi pay kar diya", "wrong number", "aap kaun?", "mujhe insaan se baat karni hai". The agent should handle each politely without inventing facts, and end the call cleanly.
6. Transfer to a person
Ask to speak to a person. Does it transfer the call to the number you set, with a short announcement? If it can't transfer, does it offer a callback?
7. Voicemail and unanswered calls
Call a number that goes to voicemail, and one that is switched off. The agent should detect the voicemail and hang up, leave a short message or schedule a callback, not talk to a recording for a minute. See voicemail detection for AI calling.
8. Data you get back
After the calls, open the call log. You should see the recording, transcript, a summary and your fields (outcome, date, amount) filled in correctly. Check that you can export them to CSV or Google Sheets, or send them to your CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho CRM and GoHighLevel are common).
9. Real cost of one call
Look at the actual charge for your test calls and ask:
- Billed per second or per started minute?
- Are unanswered calls charged?
- Any seat, licence or platform fee?
- Does the per-minute price include speech recognition, the AI model and the voice?
On Edesy: Rs 4-6 per started minute depending on your prepaid top-up, unanswered calls free, no seat fees. Compare platforms with the voice agent pricing comparison tool and our AI voice agent pricing guide for India.
10. Scale settings
Before you commit, check that you can upload a contact list (CSV or Excel), set a daily calling window, limit parallel calls, and choose which outcomes get retried. Those settings decide whether a 10,000-contact campaign is easy or painful. The 10,000-contact campaign playbook shows why.

A platform scoring 16 or more is ready for a pilot. Below 12, keep looking or ask the vendor to fix the gaps before you sign anything.
After the test: run a pilot
A good test call is not a campaign. Run 200-500 real calls, listen to 30 recordings, and compare the outcome with how your team does today. Then decide.
