For most Indian customers, Hinglish beats pure Hindi on AI voice calls. People say "payment kar diya", "order confirm hai", "EMI kab due hai", not "bhugtan kar diya" or "pushti". On our platform, agents running in Hindi-English are used several times more than pure-Hindi agents, and Hinglish is the most-used language mode overall. Pure Hindi still has its place: government, rural and older audiences. Here's how to choose, and how to write Hinglish that sounds natural.

The same line, two ways
| Pure Hindi | Hinglish |
|---|---|
| Aapka bhugtan {{tithi}} ko deya hai | Aapki EMI {{due_date}} ko due hai |
| Kya main aapke aadesh ki pushti karoon? | Kya main aapka order confirm kar doon? |
| Main aapko bhugtan ki kadi bhej rahi hoon | Main aapko payment link SMS kar rahi hoon |
| Aapki niyukti kal subah hai | Aapki appointment kal subah hai |
Most callers understand the Hinglish column instantly. The pure-Hindi column makes many of them pause, and pauses on a 30-second call cost you the answer.
When pure Hindi is the right choice
- Government and civic calls, where formal language is expected.
- Rural and older audiences less used to English words, but even then keep words simple, not literary.
- Sensitive calls (health, grievances) where a respectful formal tone matters more than speed.
Rules for natural Hinglish
- Keep business words in English: payment, EMI, order, delivery, booking, appointment, OTP, link.
- Keep grammar Hindi: "Kya aap Friday tak payment kar payenge?"
- Use "aap" and "ji", always.
- Consistent gender in verbs for the agent's voice ("kar rahi hoon" throughout).
- Numbers the Indian way: "chaar hazaar paanch sau", "ek lakh". See pronunciation of Indian numbers and acronyms.
- Don't switch language on one word. Follow the caller into English only after a full sentence or two.

Ready-made scripts
Seven copy-ready Hinglish scripts (EMI, COD, survey, admission, renewal, lead follow-up, feedback) are in Hindi AI calling scripts. Edesy also has Hindi and Hinglish templates for EMI collection, appointments, order status and FAQs.
Testing
Run the same 50 calls in Hinglish and in pure Hindi on a split list, and compare:
- Share of calls that reach the main question
- Share with a clear answer (confirmed / will pay / booked)
- "Kya?" or "samajh nahi aaya" moments in transcripts
The bigger picture
Across all languages, bilingual modes beat pure ones: Telugu-English, Tamil-English and Gujarati-English follow the same pattern. See which Indian languages businesses use for AI calls.
