COD Order Confirmation

COD Call Rules: Which Orders, When and How Often

A call rule connects a store event to a confirmation call. It filters orders with conditions, waits, calls inside your window, retries and gives up when you say so.

The short answer

A COD call rule decides which orders get a confirmation call and when. Conditions such as payment method, COD amount, order total and item count pick the orders. Timing sets the wait before the first call, total attempts, gaps between attempts, which results trigger a retry, when to give up, and the IST calling window.

How a rule handles one order

  1. Step 1 of 5: A store event arrives

order.created starts a call for rules that trigger on it. order.cancelled cancels any pending call for that order. order.paid cancels a pending COD call, since the order was paid online. Other events are stored and ignored.

  2. Step 2 of 5: Conditions are checked

The order must match every condition. By default: payment method is COD and COD is not already confirmed.

  3. Step 3 of 5: The rule waits

By default 2 minutes, so the customer can finish checkout and quick cancellations arrive first.

  4. Step 4 of 5: The call goes out inside the window

Calls are placed between the window start and end in IST, 09:00 to 21:00 by default. Orders outside it are called when the window next opens.

  5. Step 5 of 5: Retries, then an outcome

If the call is not answered, busy or failed, it is retried after the gaps you set, up to the total attempts, until the order settles or the give-up time passes.

Conditions you can use

Combine as many as you need. No conditions means every order.

Payment method

Call only cash-on-delivery orders, or any payment method string your store sends.

COD amount and order total

Compare in rupees with is, is not, >, >=, < or <=, for example only call orders above a set amount.

Item count

Target orders by the number of items, for example multi-item orders.

COD already confirmed

Skip orders already confirmed on the store, so no customer is asked twice.

Order cancelled

Leave out orders that are already cancelled.

Tags and phone

Match on order tags (contains, doesn't contain) or on the phone number.

Good to know

  • Retries stay inside the window. A retry that would land after the window closes moves to the next opening, unless that is past the give-up time.
  • We check the order just before dialling. If it was confirmed or cancelled on the store in the meantime, the call is skipped and the order shows as confirmed or cancelled elsewhere.
  • Each order is called once per rule. Duplicate store events are ignored.
  • Saving changes takes effect on the next call. A new rule starts with the next matching order.
  • What happens after the call is set in the same rule as outcome actions. See how outcomes write back.
