Edesy Resume

Resume for Experienced Professionals

After several years of work, the challenge is no longer filling a page but choosing what to cut. Recruiters want recent impact, scope and progression, not a full history of every task. This guide shows how to update your resume for a job change, and Edesy Resume can import your existing PDF or Word resume so you do not start from scratch.

What recruiters look for

  • Recent roles with scope: team size, budget, revenue, region or systems owned
  • Measurable business impact in the last five to ten years
  • Career progression, with promotions shown clearly within the same employer
  • Domain expertise and skills that match the target role's job description
  • Leadership signals, such as hiring, mentoring, cross-functional projects and stakeholder management
  • Consistent dates with gaps or short stints explained briefly where needed

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Keeping every job since graduation at the same level of detail, which pushes recent achievements to page two.
  • Carrying over old responsibility-style bullets that start with responsible for or handled.
  • Leaving outdated contact details, an objective statement or a declaration and signature block on a modern resume.
  • Writing a summary of over 110 words that reads like a cover letter.
  • Sending the same resume for every job change instead of tailoring the summary and skills to each posting.
  • Forgetting to add the current role's results before starting to apply.

Best section order

  1. 1
    Summary

Three or four lines of 40-90 words: years of experience, functional area, industries and two signature results.

  2. 2
    Experience

Give recent roles 4-5 bullets and older roles one or two. Roles more than 15 years back can be summarised in a single line.

  3. 3
    Skills

Group by area, such as functional, tools and leadership. Remove outdated tools that no longer help.

  4. 4
    Certifications

Professional certifications that recruiters filter for in your field.

  5. 5
    Education

Move to the bottom. Degree, institution and year; drop school scores.

  6. 6
    Awards

Company-level recognition and industry awards from recent years.
