Test and Publish

Place a test call to your own phone from the IVR Studio builder, then publish the flow so numbers and API calls can use it.

2 min read

To test a flow, save it and click Test call in the builder: enter your phone number (and optional JSON variables) and your phone rings with the saved flow. To publish, click Publish. Publishing runs the flow checks; a flow with errors stays a draft. Numbers and API calls only run published flows.

Test call#

  1. Save the flow. The test call uses the saved version ("Save before testing to use your latest changes").
  2. Click Test call and enter Your phone number (a 10-digit Indian number).
  3. Optionally enter Variables (JSON, optional), e.g. { "order_id": "A123", "name": "Ravi" }, to fill {{var.*}} tokens.
  4. Pick up. The dialog shows the call status and duration.
Requirement Why
Wallet balance Test calls are billed like any other call
A number in your workspace Used as the caller ID. Without one the test returns "no caller ID"
Valid variables Same limits as the API: up to 20 keys, values up to 512 characters, 4 KB in total

Test calls appear in Call Logs with the source Test.

Previews without a call#

  • TTS preview: text fields with a speaker icon play the prompt in the chosen voice.
  • VoiceML preview: shows the call instructions the flow produces. Also available as GET/v1/ivr/flows/{id}/preview.

Publish#

  1. Open the flow checks and fix every error. Warnings, such as a node with no next step, don't block publishing.
  2. Click Publish. The flow becomes a new published version.
  3. Later edits are a draft until you publish again. The toolbar shows Unpublished changes until then.

FAQ#

Do test calls cost money?#

Yes, at the normal rate of Rs 1.50 per minute. The Rs 20 free credit covers them.

Does a test call use the draft or the published version?#

The saved version in the builder, so you can test changes before publishing.

Why can't I publish?#

The flow has at least one error in flow checks, for example a Say node with no text or a Transfer node with no number.

Do callers hear my edits straight away?#

No. Callers hear the published version until you publish again.
