Resume Size Reducer: Compress Your Resume PDF Without Breaking ATS

Pick a size limit and drop in your resume. The tool shrinks the photos and images inside it and leaves the text as real text, so job portals and applicant tracking systems can still read it. It tells you whether it hit the limit and whether your text is still selectable. Everything runs in your browser.

Will this reduce my resume?

A resume PDF with a photo, logo or graphics

The images are compressed and the text stays selectable. This is where the biggest savings are.

A text-only resume that is already small

The file is re-saved more compactly where possible, but text cannot shrink much. If the limit is too low, the tool says so and shows the smallest size it reached.

A scanned resume or a photo of one

It is already an image, so ATS cannot read the text either way. Rebuild it as a text resume instead.

Features

  • Presets for 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB and 2 MB, or type your own limit

  • Text, fonts and links stay exactly as they are: only photos and logos are compressed

  • Reports "Text still selectable: yes/no" on every result

  • Picks the gentlest compression that meets your limit, so your photo keeps as much quality as possible

  • The compressed file has hidden document details such as title and author removed

  • Turning pages into images is only an option you choose, after a clear warning

When people use it

Job portal upload limits

The portal rejects your resume as too large. Shrink it under the limit and keep it readable.

Resumes with a photo

A camera photo can be most of the file size. Compressing just the photo often cuts the file several times over.

Email applications

Send a smaller attachment that still opens as a normal, searchable PDF.

Why resume compression is different

Why not use any PDF compressor?

Many "compress to size" tools, including our own Compress PDF to Size, get to very small sizes by turning each page into a picture. That is fine for a form or a certificate, but a resume needs its text. Applicant tracking systems (ATS) read the text to match your skills and experience, and an image-only resume gives them nothing to read.

This tool works the other way round. It finds the images inside your resume, usually a profile photo, a logo or a background graphic, and makes them smaller. The words are not touched.

What decides how small it can get

If your resume is large because of a photo or graphics, it usually shrinks a lot. If it is already mostly text, there is little to remove: text in a PDF is already compact. In that case the tool tells you it could not reach the limit with the text kept, and shows the smallest size it got to.

  • Remove an extra page or a large background graphic and try again.
  • Embedded fonts add size. Exporting again with standard fonts helps.
  • Resume in Word? Convert it to PDF first, then reduce it here.
  • Want to know if an ATS can read it? Try the Resume Checker.

The image option, and when to avoid it

If the limit cannot be met any other way, you can choose to turn the pages into images. The tool warns you first, because many job portals and ATS cannot read image-only resumes. Use it only when the portal just stores the file, or as a last resort.
