Most outbound systems give you one blunt setting: retry everything, or retry nothing. Retry either wastes minutes on disconnected numbers or abandons people who were simply in a meeting. Disposition-based retry decides per outcome - so a busy signal gets another attempt and a do-not-call request never does.
Never Retried
Max Attempts
Minimum Gap
Idempotency Key
Not every failed call failed for the same reason
Busy and no-answer mean the person exists and was unavailable. These are worth another attempt, and you can select exactly which carrier outcomes qualify.
A call that connected and ended with the caller asking to be rung back is not a failure - it is a scheduled future attempt. Selecting that disposition puts a completed call back into the retry queue and reopens the campaign.
Wrong number, do-not-call, and not-interested are never redialled, whatever else is configured. There is no setting that overrides this, because there should not be one.
Beyond a flat delay, you can define a cadence with its own timezone - try again in 30 minutes, then tomorrow morning, then in three days - so attempts land when the person is likely to answer.
Pass an idempotency key and a repeated request attaches to the existing retry chain instead of quietly starting a second one. A flaky network on your side does not double-dial your customer.
Every retry chain has an ID. You can look up its state or cancel it outright at any point, so a customer who asks you to stop actually stops.
Campaign-wide policy, and per-call policy
Retry policy is a connect-rate lever, not a settings page
Borrowers are reachable in narrow windows. A cadence that retries across different times of day recovers contacts a single attempt would miss - while do-not-call requests are honoured permanently.
A no-answer the day before an appointment deserves another attempt that evening. A cancellation does not.
'Call me after 6' is the most valuable outcome in an outbound campaign and the one most systems throw away. Re-queueing it turns a completed call back into a live opportunity.
Hard-stop dispositions that cannot be overridden give you a defensible answer when someone asks why a number was or was not called again.
Blanket retry burns minutes on disconnected and wrong numbers. Filtering by outcome puts the same budget behind numbers that can actually connect.
A call fired from a CRM webhook carries its own retry rules, so a single high-value lead can get a more persistent cadence than a bulk list.
