PDF Metadata Remover

Check a PDF for hidden information before you share it, then remove it in one click: author and company names, the software used, editing history, attached files, comments, and GPS location inside photos. Or edit the document properties instead.

GPS location in photos inside the PDF

Stripped from each photo without changing the image.

Before you share

Make sure your CV doesn't carry an old employer's name or a template author.

HR and legal documents

Remove reviewers' comments, edit history and internal attachments before sending.

Documents with phone photos

Photos taken on a phone can reveal exactly where they were taken.

What PDF metadata can reveal

Hidden data most people never see

  • Document properties: author, company, title and the software that made the file.
  • XMP metadata: a second copy of those properties, often with an editing history.
  • Earlier versions: some editors save changes by appending them, so deleted text can be recovered.
  • Photos: phone cameras record the camera model and GPS coordinates inside each picture.
  • Comments, attachments and form values that are easy to forget about.

Metadata removal is not redaction

This tool removes data stored around the document, not text you can see on the page. To permanently black out visible text, use Redact PDF. To lock filled-in form fields, use Flatten PDF.

What it can't remove

Hidden layers are reported, but their content stays in the file, because removing it means rewriting page contents. Cleaning a digitally signed PDF invalidates the signature.
