Getting good results from image to text

How it works

The tool uses an open-source OCR engine (Tesseract) that runs inside your browser. The first time you use a language, its language data is downloaded (a few MB) and then cached, so later runs start faster. Your images are not sent anywhere.

Tips for better accuracy

  • Accuracy depends on image quality. Use a sharp, well-lit, straight photo of printed text.
  • Pick the language that is in the image. Choose English + Hindi for pages that mix both.
  • Crop away everything except the text with Crop Image before reading it.
  • Keep Enhance image on for small or faint screenshots. Turn it off if a clean image reads worse.
  • Handwriting is not read reliably. Printed and on-screen text work best.

Scanned PDFs and tidying the text

For a scanned PDF, use OCR PDF, which processes the whole document on our server and gives you a searchable PDF. To change the text to UPPER, lower or Title Case after extracting it, use the Case Converter.
