Change a video's shape for the app you're posting to: vertical 9:16 for Reels, Stories, WhatsApp Status and Shorts, 16:9 for YouTube, square or 4:5 for feed posts. Keep the whole picture with a blurred background or black bars, or crop it to fill the frame. Everything runs in your browser, so your videos are never uploaded.

Post the whole video in a vertical frame without Instagram or WhatsApp cutting off the sides.
Put a portrait clip in a 16:9 frame with a blurred background instead of black bars.
Make a video fill the feed space on Instagram and Facebook.
When the video's shape doesn't match the frame, something has to fill the gap or something has to be cut. A blurred background fills the empty space with a soft, enlarged copy of the video, which is what most creators use. Black bars keep it plain. Crop to fill zooms in until the frame is full and cuts off what doesn't fit, which works when the important part is in the middle.
1080p is sharper and is what Instagram and YouTube recommend. 720p is quicker to make in a browser, gives a smaller file, and looks fine on WhatsApp Status, which compresses videos anyway.
The video is re-encoded in your browser, which takes about as long as it plays on a computer, and longer on a phone. Very long or 4K videos can run out of browser memory. If one fails, close other tabs or try it on a computer.
