Rotate Video

Fix a video that plays sideways or upside down: turn it 90° right or left, or 180°. You can also mirror it or flip it top to bottom. MP4 and phone videos turn instantly with no quality loss, because only their rotation setting changes. Everything runs in your browser, so your videos are never uploaded.

Rotating a video

Why rotating can be instant

MP4 and phone videos store a rotation setting that tells players which way up to show the picture. Changing that setting turns the video without touching the picture, so it takes a second and the quality is identical. Phones, browsers, WhatsApp, Instagram and YouTube all follow it.

A few old players and editors ignore the setting and still show the video sideways. For those, tick "Turn the picture itself": the video is re-encoded with the picture turned, which every app shows correctly. Mirroring and flipping always work this way, and so do formats like AVI or WebM.

Large files and browser memory

Each video is loaded into your browser's memory while it is processed. Instant rotations work on large files too. Re-encoding long or 4K videos is slow in a browser, especially on phones, and can run out of memory. If one fails, close other tabs or try it on a computer.
