Frequently asked questions

How do I trim a video without losing quality?

Cut it without re-encoding. In the Edesy Video Trimmer, pick Fast mode: it copies the original video and audio into the shorter file, so nothing is compressed again and the quality is identical.

Why does my trimmed clip start a little before the time I set?

Fast mode copies the video as it is, so it must start on a keyframe, a full picture that most videos store every few seconds. If your start time falls between keyframes, the clip begins at the keyframe before it. Use Precise mode for a frame-accurate start.

Does Precise mode reduce quality?

Slightly. It re-encodes the clip to MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio) at a high quality setting, so it looks very close to the original but is not bit-for-bit identical. It also takes longer.

What is the largest video I can trim in a browser?

There is no fixed limit, but the whole video is loaded into your browser's memory, with the trimmed copy next to it. Everyday phone videos work well. Very large files can fail, most often on phones or with many tabs open. The tool shows a warning for files over 500 MB.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The trimmer runs a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg in your browser, so the video stays on your device. There is no watermark.

How do I remove the sound as well?

Trim first, then run the clip through Mute Video. It removes the audio by copying the picture without re-encoding, so the quality stays the same.
