Changing your voice in an audio clip

What each effect does

  • Robot multiplies your voice by a low buzzing tone (ring modulation) and adds a short metallic ring.
  • Deep lowers the pitch by 5 semitones. Chipmunk raises it by 7.
  • Echo repeats your voice every 0.3 seconds, fading each time.
  • Radio / phone keeps only roughly 300 to 3,400 Hz, the range a phone line carries, and adds light distortion.
  • Alien raises the pitch by 5 semitones and adds a fast wobble.
  • Cave / hall puts your voice in a large, echoing room.

Pitch and speed

With Keep original speed on, the pitch changes but the clip stays the same length. This uses an audio engine that loads once (about 30 MB). Turn it off for a faster, tape-style change where higher also means faster and lower means slower.

For finer pitch control on songs, with cents and key display, use the Pitch Changer. To change only the speed, use the Audio Speed Changer.

Tips for a better result

  • Record close to the microphone in a quiet room. Background noise gets louder with Robot and Radio.
  • Shifts of more than about 5 semitones sound noticeably processed. That is part of the fun for Chipmunk and Alien.
  • Need a clean recording first? Use the Voice Recorder. For music edits, try the Slowed + Reverb Maker.

Use it for fun, not to mislead

This tool is for entertainment and creative work. Don't use a changed voice to pretend to be someone else or to trick people.
