An IVR call is billed for the time the caller spends on the line. When the IVR forwards the call to a person, a second call leg is opened to that person's number, and both legs are billed for as long as they stay connected. That is why forwarded calls cost about twice as much per minute.
Billed leg minutes = calls x average minutes + forwarded calls x average minutes.
Monthly cost = billed leg minutes x per-minute rate + calls x per-call fee + numbers x monthly rental.
The calculator assumes a forwarded call lasts the full average length on both legs, which errs high.
