Calling Hours and DND Checklist (India)

Before you start automated or agent calls, run through the basics: when you call, why you may call each number, DND for promotional calls, opt-out, retries and recordings. Pick your call type and tick off each item. General information, not legal advice.

Edesy's COD confirmation calls only dial inside the calling window you set.

This checklist is general information, not legal advice. Telecom rules in India change; check the current TRAI and DoT rules, ask your telecom provider, or take legal advice for your situation.

Pick fixed start and end hours and keep every attempt inside them. Promotional calls in India face stricter time limits than service calls; check the current rules for yours.

Many customers don't welcome business calls on holidays. If you do call, keep to the same window.

An order they placed, an account or loan they hold, or a request they made. Keep the record of it.

A reminder or confirmation about the customer's own order or account is generally treated differently from an offer. Don't add promotions to a service call; if in doubt, treat it as promotional.

Promotional and service calls may need different number series or sender registration. Ask your provider which applies to your calls.

Your business name and the reason for the call.

A key to press or a number to call. Stop calling numbers that opt out.

Set a maximum number of attempts per customer and a gap between them; stop once the customer has answered.

A short line at the start of the call is enough.

Customers should not think a recorded or text-to-speech voice is a person.

Restrict who can access them and delete what you no longer need.

How to use the checklist

Step 1

Pick the call type

Confirmation, reminder or promotional, and whether an IVR or a person speaks.

Step 2

Tick each item

Only items that apply to your calls are shown.

Step 3

Fix the gaps

Anything unticked is worth sorting out before the first call.

Step 4

Check the rules

This is a starting point. Confirm the current rules with your telecom provider or adviser.

Service calls and promotional calls

Indian telecom rules treat calls differently depending on what they are for. A call about the customer's own order, appointment, account or payment is generally a service or transactional call. A call that offers something new is promotional, and promotional calls come with more conditions: DND preferences, consent, time limits and the number series you call from.

Keep the two apart. Adding an offer to a confirmation call can turn it into a promotional call.

Calling windows

Whatever the call type, call in daytime hours, in the customer's time zone, and keep retries inside the same window. Edesy COD confirmation calls run inside an IST calling window you set, with delays and retries you control. See how it works.

Not legal advice

This page is general information to help you plan. It is not legal advice and may not reflect the latest rules. Check the current TRAI and DoT rules or ask an adviser.
